We are a group of homeowners on Silver Lake, Lewisberry whose objectives are:
In 2021, Hurricane Ida dropped 10" of rain into our watershed area. Our earthen dam, originally constructed in the 1780s, overtopped for the first time in living memory. Repairs, expensive repairs, must be done to preserve our lake.
Silver Lake, like all man-made lakes also is imperiled by silt buildup. Much of the area farmland has been transformed into housing communities, with storm drains, macadam roads and driveways, and other changes to the land that speeds the movement of water from storms into the streams that feed silver lake. Accelerated run-off carries silt and debris into our lake. Long term silt mitigation strategies must be developed and funded.
It's simple, we want to save Silver Lake for our children, grandchildren and beyond.
A number of homeowners have come together to explore creative financing methods to fund the needed repairs and to respect and protect the economic diversity of our lake community. We are exploring a self funding model to mitigate the impact on our neighbors living on fixed incomes.
